Abandoned Hotel in Siem Reap

Recently abandoned 5 star Luxury Hotel with everything still inside!

We found this gem of an abandoned hotel, right in the middle of Siem Reap. The bustling Cambodian city ripe with tourists….

If you didn’t know already, we kind of have a thing for exploring abandoned places.

Why would this beautiful hotel just die? Be left to decay?

Below you can watch the full experience from the moment we discovered it, to the creepy dark passages and beautifully designed interior.

What we know about the hotel

We spent about 1 to 2 hours exploring the property, which was open to the very main street it faced. The above video shows us exploring it inside and out. I was a bit creeped out in the dark passages.

There was no longer electricity to the building. The video will give you much more detail. Please give it a watch and a thumbs up.

When was it abandoned?

What we do know based off of recent hotel reviews on booking sites is this:

  1. The hotel was in operation as little as 6 months before we were there in January 2019.
  2. The online booking site’s adverts were not deactivated before the hotel was abandoned, and it seems that some guests booked online, only to arrive to an abandoned site. Needless to say, they wrote some scathing reviews.

There were invoices in the reception labelled June 2018.

Operating one day, and abandoned the next.

This was clear to us by the amount of valuable equipment and electronics still in the hotel.

Fully made beds with towels folded were neatly prepared in the rooms.

The rooftop pool covered in a mossy blanket was still full during the end of the Cambodian dry season.

There is ALWAYS a story behind an abandoned place. And that’s why I find them so fascinating. Who decided to leave all of this and what was going on in their lives that they did?

Have you explored any abandoned places?
